Today is definitely one of those days where I felt limited. I woke up and my right hand was so swollen I couldn’t make a fist. All day my forearm has been having spasms and my shoulder is aching. Today is one of those days that I worry about the future. If this is late 20s, what will late 30s look like? These same conditions stopped my father’s career dead in it’s tracks. I bake and if I can’t use my writing hand that’s going to cause all kinds of problems in my life. I already feel bad that my husband has to be my caretaker when I’m having an episode (which can last days). He has been carrying me up stairs and caring for me for 7 years now and I feel it’s unfair to him. He says it doesn’t bother him, but does he just say that? I remember being 16 and not being able to get out of the bed because my knees were so stiff. I wondered what the future held then, but I have far more to lose now. You don’t worry about losing some independence until it’s for some reason gone. Usually by this point in the day I’m crying my eyes out worried about things I have no control over. I haven’t cried yet. Tears won’t “fix” me. I don’t want to live a half life. I guess only time will tell what’s to come. Hopefully good days will out weigh bad and I’ll continue to have the support I have.
